Let’s talk about Zakarpattia…

Dear Friends:

You will not see something like this in other countries — nowhere.  The churches of Zakarpattia, the western region of Ukraine that sits next to eastern Slovakia and northeastern Hungary, is home to a number of unusual wooden churches dating from the 15th to 18th centuries.

This beautiful region of Ukraine has a rather remarkable history: once part of Austria-Hungary, it became part of independent Czechoslovakia after World War I, then part of Ukraine and the U.S.S.R. after World War II.

Check out this recent NYTimes story about this fascinating area. If you’re thinking of visiting, a rudimentary knowledge of Ukrainian is advised.  You won’t need much money though, because hotel rooms start at 120 hryvnia, or $15 (US). Yes, really.

Ukrainian Club Schedule

Tonight (Thursday, July 28) Brian will be the host bartender.  Tomorrow night, Friday July 29 a mystery bartender will be hosting.  Come to the Club and see who it will be!  Our Mexican kitchen will also be open Friday night with four amazing Mexican meals to choose from (pork, chicken, beef or fish).  All dinners are served with refried beans, mexican rice, homemade salsa and your choice of corn or flour tortillas.  And best of all after you order, you’ll get tortilla chips and homemade salsa to snack on while you wait for your meal to cook.  All for $9!

We hope to see you soon!
